Facts & FAQs
Need some help? Got a burning art question? Below you will find information on the topics I get asked about most, and then some.
Artwork
All paintings are in acrylic and finished with a semi-gloss varnish to protect the artwork.
All paintings are wired and ready to hang. I’m happy to come to your home or virtually help you choose the best location to showcase your new art.
Art Framing
Floater Frames for Darlene’s paintings are handcrafted locally from ash wood and elegantly showcase your new artwork. For smaller works, you may want to choose Frame or Frameless. A variety or colour choices is available. It’s up to you.
Home Trial
Not sure the painting will work in your space? I can arrange for delivery of 2 or 3 paintings to your home, office or cottage for a home trial so you can get a sense of size and scale in your room. Get a feel for how the colour lives in the space. There is no charge for this service if you are in my local area.
Shipping
I will safely crate your painting and arrange for shipping. A shipping cost will be provided to you with your invoice.
Local pickup can be arranged.
Canadian Tax Deductions on Art
The Canada Revenue Agency has determined that taxpayers who purchase or rent Canadian art, for their personal office or for the common areas of their places of business (such as the lobby or hallway), can claim a tax deduction for the cost of purchasing or renting the work.
Art is an excellent investment! A tax incentive deduction on an appreciating asset!

How to Care for Your Art
01
Cleaning
- Remove jewellery or watches before handling the painting to avoid catching or snagging any surface of the paint.
- A soft, natural hair artist brush can be used to lightly dust the painting.
- Ask an expert. The job can sometimes be best left to a conservator. The Canadian Association of Professional Conservators is a good resource for professionals in your area.
02
Maintenance
- Keep dirt and finger prints away from your paintings.
- Minimize contact with your painting by wearing cotton gloves.
- Like spring cleaning, periodic inspections of the mounting hardware and stability are a good idea.
03
Framing
- Carry the painting with two hands from the sides of the frame.
- Do not carry a painting by the top of the frame or stretcher.
- Use proper quality mounting materials according to the weight and size of the artwork.
- Try to hang your artwork anchored in a wall stud and out of direct sunlight.
