Arts Etobicoke will be hosting a series of creative workshops at their storefront gallery located at 4893A Dundas Street West.
My painting workshop The Village Effect starts May 7th and runs for 4 consecutive Tuesday evenings between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm.

Introducing a Series of Art Classes!

In a series of four weekly in-person workshops, participants will learn a new skill taught by professional artist Darlene Kulig. This workshop will include a basic value study looking at our ability to read values from white to black, as well as a fun drawing excercise to really see each other.

Darlene will provide step by step guidance on how to paint your special village from painting reference provided. All materials will be provided by Arts Etobicoke.

Ages 16+
Cost: $220 +HST for the series (all 4 workshops, all supplies included)

All proceeds from this class will go towards supporting our free community programming.

“Darlene’s whole approach to teaching (and painting) is so delightful, engaging and life affirming! I’d never really painted before, but the class I’ve just finished with her has started me on a great new journey. I’m really grateful for having had the opportunity to learn from such a gifted artist.”

The Village Effect Painting Workshop

Human beings are hard-wired to connect to other human beings AND to create things. This workshop will include a basic value study looking at our ability to read values from white to black, as well as a fun drawing excercise to really see each other. Darlene will provide step by step guidance on how to paint your special village from painting reference provided. Whether you paint a charming village in the Tatra Mountains or the Austrian countryside, a streetscape in Vienna of a magiacl Fairytale Cottage our home is our sanctuary.

Each week class will start with a short lecture to better understand design and colour. The instructor will bring something that she is working on to share her step by step process. Each student will have open studio time to work on a painting of their choice. There will bring art books for students to “copy” if they are not ready to start something original. Or students are welcome to bring their own reference or to copy Darlene’s style.

WEEK 1

Using acrylics the students will mix Tint, Tone and Shades and discuss “Relative Colour”. Understanding and seeing value is the foundation of making art. Students will have open studio time to work on a simple painting.

WEEK 2

Using acrylics the students will explore the colour wheel and mix complex neutrals. Learning to see colour as a value and a temperature (warm or cool) is critical to making successful art. Students will have open studio time to paint.

WEEK 3

Students will look at the core design elements including Line, Shape, Value, Colour and Intensity. Students will have open studio time to paint.

WEEK 4

Students will now be ready to let go and critique their own work and the work of each other using the skills developed in the workshop. Students will have open studio time to paint.
